Ce modèle de guitare Manouche s’est fait connaître par l’initiateur du jazz européen, Django Reinhardt, qui a fait sensation au début du XXe siècle parce que sa technique virtuose était incomparable. D’autant plus qu’il ne pouvait utiliser que deux doigts de sa main gauche dans un accident.

Le design Maccaferri a été distribué par Selmer et la Richwood RM-70-NT est la dernière version avec la « petite bouche », le trou sonore ovale, plus petit.
