Royall Tampa Squareneck Resonator Guitar : this art deco-design tricone model has three hand-spun 6″ resonator cones that deliver a rich sound with plenty of sustain. The nickel-plated brass body will impress with its looks and the sound it produces:
This version of the Royall Tampa is a square-neck guitar, designed to be played like a lap steel guitar, with a slide. To make things easier for the lap steel player, the neck continues upwards, helping the player reach the highest notes. In addition, the tuning pegs are mounted the other way round, and the guitar comes with flat-wound strings for smooth slide playing.
The Tampa is also available in a round-neck version, for players who prefer the conventional playing position.
The tricone was the first resonator model invented, in the late 1920s. The sound is much less direct and less loud than that of its single-cone counterparts, but the loss of volume is more than made up for by the complexity of the tone.
The playability is, as always, perfect. The luthiers who designed and built these instruments actually play resonator guitar. In the Royall workshop, the resonator cones are hand-spun to fit these instruments. Since they are the heart of the sound, hand-spun Royall resonator cones make an enormous difference. It is a guarantee of unquestionable quality: as always, the guitar is supplied with a lightweight ROYALL soft case:
